Stephen Bliss, the Artist Behind the Iconic Images of GTA – Grand Theft Auto
Best known for shaping the visual identity of one of the most popular video games of all time, Stephen Bliss
Read MoreStephen Bliss is a British artist, illustrator and muralist best known for helping define the distinctive visual language of Grand Theft Auto during his years as a Senior Artist at Rockstar Games from 2001 to 2016. His illustrations became some of the most recognisable images associated with the franchise, extending across game covers, posters, billboards and promotional campaigns.
After leaving Rockstar, Bliss expanded his practice into murals, painting, décollage, comics and digital projects. His work includes large-scale public artworks, palimpsests made from layers of advertising posters removed from urban walls, and Fear City, a fictional universe that developed from NFTs into comics, clothing, filters and other physical and digital projects. His career moves between commercial illustration, popular visual culture and contemporary art, raising questions around authorship, visibility and the boundary between mass imagery and fine art.
