The Unreal Garden

The Unreal Garden is an immersive mixed-reality experience developed by Enklu in collaboration with OneDome. First presented in San Francisco in 2018, the project combines physical environments, augmented landscapes, sound and digital artworks by multiple artists. It creates a shared world positioned between an exhibition, an interactive narrative and a video game.

Visitors wear augmented-reality headsets while remaining able to see the physical space and the people around them. Holographic plants, creatures and artworks appear within the real environment. Movement and interaction reveal new elements, allowing each visitor to follow a different route through the experience.

Unlike virtual reality, The Unreal Garden does not replace the surrounding world. It adds a digital layer that makes physical and imaginary spaces coexist. The project raises broader questions about participation, technological spectacle and the changing role of the viewer in immersive art. This tag brings together articles and critical perspectives on The Unreal Garden and mixed-reality culture.
