Juliana Huxtable

Juliana Huxtable is an American multidisciplinary artist, writer, performer and DJ whose practice moves across photography, painting, video, performance, poetry, music and digital culture.

Her work investigates the construction of identity through language, images, technology and social systems. Race, gender, queerness, sexuality and the politics of representation emerge as unstable territories shaped by personal experience, collective histories and online culture.

Huxtable frequently combines self-portraiture, speculative imagery, literary references and experimental forms of writing. Rather than presenting identity as fixed or immediately legible, her work explores transformation, ambiguity and the tension between self-invention and external classification.

Nightlife, fashion, music and internet aesthetics are not secondary influences within her practice but cultural spaces through which bodies, communities and alternative identities become visible. Her work also questions how institutions and digital platforms circulate, commercialise and regulate those forms of visibility.
