Classical Realism

Classical Realism combines careful observation with the techniques of European classical art. Artists focus on accurate drawing, human anatomy, perspective, light and proportion. They often study in ateliers and learn through direct practice. Their works include portraits, still lifes, landscapes and figurative paintings.

The movement gained new strength during the late twentieth century. It offered an alternative to abstraction and conceptual art. However, Classical Realism does not simply copy the past. Contemporary artists use traditional skills to explore modern subjects and personal experiences. The movement also raises questions about beauty, craftsmanship and artistic value. It asks whether technical mastery can still challenge contemporary culture.
