Christina Schlesinger is an American painter, muralist, feminist artist, and former member of the Guerrilla Girls, where she worked under the name Romaine Brooks. Her artistic practice explores lesbian visibility, sexuality, freedom, feminism, and the possibility of constructing a life outside social and institutional expectations.
After moving to California in the early 1970s, Schlesinger encountered Womanhouse and joined the Feminist Art Program at CalArts. She later worked with Judy Baca on public murals in Los Angeles and helped establish SPARC, the Social and Public Art Resource Center. Her major bodies of work include the Birch paintings, the Lesbian Bar series, the Tomboys, and the Dildo Paintings.
